Stories, the app for social storytellers
I started Stories because we all need to tell stories. Social networks already offered places to write, but I felt there was something missing: a space for short, literary storytelling. I wanted to make it possible to write and read stories anywhere.
How did we get started?
We launched the app on iOS, focusing on Chile and participating in every startup event in the city.
We invited people who were already writing on Twitter to try the app and become early adopters. We also shared press releases with several media outlets.
We wanted to encourage everyone to tell stories in this short format and view life through the lens of a writer.
How did we learn from users?
To understand how people wrote creative stories, we contacted our most active users by email and interviewed them.
We explored how easy it was to write stories on a smartphone, which formats users preferred, how long they spent writing and reading in the app, what inspired them, and how they wanted their audiences to interact with their stories.
An unconventional acquisition idea
Matias, the co-founder, and I created a Tinder account for Stories.
We created images inviting people to join the app.
We received so many matches that Tinder closed our account 😅. Still, it was a creative way to introduce people to the app.
